It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Shuey on February 26, 2025. She was a beloved spouse and mother, known for her deep faith in Christ, immense kindness, unwavering support, and the joy she brought to everyone around. She was born on February 17, 1934 in Beaver, Oklahoma to Walter Fredrick Hetrick and Iva Minerva Clapp Hetrick. Wanda led a life full of love, laughter, and extraordinary moments.
Wanda was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom to many who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 2002; her sister, Shirley Shuck; brother, Gene Morlan and wife Jeannie; her son, Randy Shuey; grandson, Jared Shuey; and both parents, Walter and Iva Hetrick.
Wanda is survived by son Russell Shuey and wife Debra of Exline, Iowa; daughter Donna Hayes and husband Kyle of Liberal, Kansas; and a special adopted daughter Lucia Briones and husband Frank of Margate, Florida. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren – Kasey Hayes and wife Leah of Liberal, Kansas; Kolt Hayes and wife Mallory of Forgan, Oklahoma; Kasha Shuey Foret and husband Steve of Yukon, Oklahoma; Kaley Amway of Chicago, Illinois; Norman Briones of Margate, Florida; and Giovanni Briones of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 Great Grandchildren Kash Hayes, Lathan Hayes, London Hayes, and Kandid Hayes of Liberal, Kansas; Kortlyn Hayes of Forgan, Oklahoma; Amara Tech and husband Karl of Yukon, Oklahoma; Aralyn and Adon Foret of Yukon, Oklahoma; James and Ryuan Shuey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Lydia Shuey of Chickasha, Oklahoma; her sister Trudy Cooper and husband Jerry of Turpin, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Maxine Brown and husband Jack of Niangua, Missouri; and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all but her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Wanda and Don celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 1, 2002. They were married at the Bethel Church of God on June 1, 1952. After a short honeymoon they moved to Wichita, Kansas and then later to Wichita Falls, Texas. After 4 years in the Air Force, they moved back to Forgan, Oklahoma and began farmng.
Wanda was saved and baptized in March of 1944. When Don and Wanda moved back in 1956, they rejoined the fellowship and became an intricate part of the First Baptist Church. Wanda played the piano and sang specials as well as taught Sunday School. Her faith played a major role in her life.
