Twila Fern Boyd, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born on November 23, 1951, in Walsh, Colorado. She peacefully passed away on October 23, 2023, at Beaver County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family at approximately 12:45 pm. She was 71 years old, just one month shy of her 72nd birthday.
Twila, affectionately known as "Mimi" by her adoring grandchildren, is survived by her devoted spouse of 51 years, Terry Boyd. She is also survived by her children, daughter Tera Robinson and husband Lance Robinson, son Bryan Boyd and wife Johnnie, son R. Travis Boyd and his wife Kasey, and son C. Tyler Boyd and wife Tiffany. Twila was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren: Bailey and Tatum Boyd, Harper Boyd, Kambrian and Drako Sandoval, Kaeden Acevedo, Kyven Acevedo, and Elias Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russel E. Bryan and Imogene Hetrick-Bryan.
Twila was born and raised in Walsh, Colorado, and graduated from high school there. She went on to attend Oklahoma Panhandle State University (then known as simply Panhandle State University), where she met the love of her life, Terry Boyd. They married on May 25, 1972, and together, they embarked on a journey of love, family, and devotion.
Twila's greatest joy in life was being a mother and Mimi to her grandchildren. Her children describe her as a woman of extraordinary kindness and love. She lived a life free from vices, dedicating herself to her family. While raising her children, she also taught elementary school in Gruver, Texas. In 1988, Twila and Terry moved to Turpin, Oklahoma, where they established their permanent home. In the same year, Twila welcomed twins into the world, completing their family.
Twila's love extended beyond her family and into her work. She was the first office manager for the Turpin Community Clinic, where she worked for a decade. She then returned to the education field, teaching elementary children until her retirement, which was necessitated by a cancer diagnosis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her impact as a teacher was immeasurable, with countless students considering her their favorite.
A dedicated scrapbooker, Twila created numerous scrapbooks, each a testament to the precious memories and moments in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Her memory will live on in these cherished keepsakes.
Many would humorously say of Twila, "She raised the most beautiful family, filled with the best people, and it's all her fault!"
Twila Fern Boyd will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28th, at 2:00 pm at the Turpin Baptist Church, 212 Reed St., Turpin, Oklahoma. There will be a meal following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to one of the following organizations, all of which were dear to Twila's heart:
- St. Jude Children's Hospital (Twila supported children and donated to St. Jude's for decades).
- Southwest Miracles of Liberal, Kansas.
- Panhandle Partners of Guymon, Oklahoma (to continue their support for those battling cancer, just as they helped Twila).
Please join us in celebrating Twila's life and the love she shared with the world.
