Jessie Pauline (Jacobs) Messner, 88, passed from this life November 25, 2016 while celebrating Thanksgiving with family in Great Bend, Kansas. Pauline was born April 12, 1928 to Jess and Pearl (Clarke) Jacobs on the family farm near Elmwood, Oklahoma. She was fourth of the six children in their family. She attended school at Garrett, Booker, and Beaver, and worked at the Elmwood store and post office until her marriage Sept 10, 1944 to Wayne Messner at the Darrouzett United Methodist church basement (the only part built at the time) and enjoyed their next 45 years together. She and Wayne moved to the Messner homestead, where they remained throughout their lives. They farmed and raised cattle, milkcows, and pigs. To this union were born Texanna Pearl in 1947, Ruby Deanna in 1949, Edward Wayne in 1952, and Lenora Coleen in 1957. In 1958, the old soddy was torn down and replaced with a house purchased from a neighbor. In the years that followed, additions and improvements were made to accommodate the family's needs. Throughout the years, the Messner homestead was the location for many family reunions and church, 4H, and community events. In addition to helping Wayne on the farm, Pauline was active in the Apostolic Faith Church, extension homemaker clubs, 4H clubs, and county and state Farm Bureau. In 1967, she and Wayne were selected as the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Family of the year, an honor Pauline was very proud of. Her commitment to her faith in the Lord and role as a youth leader led her to serve as a teacher at the Apostolic Faith Bible College, as well as serving many years as a Sunday School teacher at church. Pauline regarded her family as her greatest achievement, and was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their spouses and the many accomplishments in their lives. She gave each child, grandchild and great-grandchild an embroidered and hand-stitched quilt as a memorable gift to treasure in the years to come.
She was preceded in death by husband Wayne Messner, son Edward Messner, son-in-law Max Ollenberger, great-granddaughter Anna Kay Powers, brother Walter Jacobs, sister Wilma Clay, brother-in-laws Glen Sanger and Harvey Addleman, and sister-in-law Leota Jacobs. She is survived by sisters Jean Addleman of Raymore, MO, Ilene Sanger of Elkins, AR, brother Lester Jacobs and wife Susie of Cassville, MO, daughters Texanna Ollenberger of Paola, KS, Deanna Rogers and husband Howard of Ellinwood, KS, Coleen Bradley and husband Jay of Logan, OK, daughter-in-law Susan Messner Turner of Logan, OK, grandchildren Jerry Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Jamie Ollenberger Powers, Keith Ollenberger, Darryl Messner, Jennifer Rogers Klepper, Rebecca Bradley, Rachael Bradley Jett, Donnie Messner, Jason Bradley, Charles Bradley, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
