Otha Marie (Chockley) McDaniel was born on July 21, 1939, in Beaver County
to parents Fred and Alberta Chockley. After graduating from Laverne High
School, Otha started classes at Panhandle State University, where she met
Lavaughn McDaniel. They were married on June 2, 1957, and had two children,
Mark and LaVonda.
In the fall of 1968, Otha returned to school and later
received her teaching degree. She was a dedicated educator and taught in
the Beaver, Clayton, and Felt school districts for 25 years. Otha retired
from teaching in 1995 and spent over 15 years running two family-owned
businesses with her husband. She was an avid bowler who enjoyed card games
and dominoes. Additionally, she spent her free time gardening and spoiling
her three grandchildren.
Otha passed away peacefully at Beaver County
Nursing Home on March 19, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by family. She
was preceded in death by her father, Fred Chockley; her mother, Alberta Chockley; her son, Mark
McDaniel; her stepmother, Iris Chockley; her brothers, Jim and Roy
Chockley; and her husband, Lavaughn McDaniel. Otha is survived by her
brother, Roger Chockley (Beaver, OK); sister-in-law, Barbara Chockley
(Beaver, OK); many cherished nieces and nephews; her daughter, LaVonda
Snyder (Aztec, NM); her grandchildren, Lindsay Snyder(Albuquerque, NM), Chase Snyder
(Albuquerque, NM), and Lashae Snyder (Farmington, NM); and
great-granddaughter, Caia Strickhausen (Farmington, NM).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the New Horizon
Church of Felt in Otha's name.
