Julia Elaine Oden was born on June 20, 1938 near Forgan, Oklahoma to J.P. and Mary Estelline (Maynard) Underwood. She grew up in the Forgan area and attended some colleges in eastern Oklahoma.
Music was the soundtrack of Elaine’s life, and she found great joy in the timeless melodies of the past. She and Bob frequently attended symphonies and musical performances, delighting in the elegance of classical compositions. She had a deep love for Rogers and Hammerstein productions, cherished classic films like The Sound of Music and Dr. Zhivago, and was capitated by the charm of Doris Day. But perhaps nothing brought her more joy than The Lawrence Welk Show, which she adored with childlike enthusiasm. Her vast vinyl collection-featuring the voices of Pat Boone, Nat King Cole, Jim Nabors, and countless others-was a testament to her love for the golden age of music. A devoted member of the Church of Christ, Elaine’s faith was the foundation of her life. She attended services faithfully, lifting her voice in song with a distinct vibrato that was uniquely hers. Hymns were not just melodies to her; they were prayers set to music, a reflection of the steadfast devotion she carried in her heart.
Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved younger sister Frankie Dean (Underwood) Radcliff; her devoted parents, JP and Estelline (Maynard) Underwood; and the love of her life, her husband, Bob F. Oden. She and Bob shared a rare and beautiful bond-a love rooted in deep companionship, unwavering support, and mutual admiration. Theirs was a love story that stood the test of time, filled with shared passions and quiet, tender moments that defined their years together.
