Geneva Dorine Bowker passed away on March 13, 2024 at the age of 92 at her
resident care home “The Sycamore” in Amarillo, Texas. Her 6 children were
there to say their final goodbyes. We would like to give a very special
thank you to the staff at the Park Central Moore and Sycamore Assisted
Living facilities for the excellent care they gave her.
Dorine was born on July 17, 1931 in Pratt Kansas to Frank and Mae (Taylor)
Cunningham. As a young girl, her parents moved her and her 9 siblings to
Waynoka Oklahoma where she married and had 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls.
In 1964, she moved to Beaver Oklahoma and later became caretaker of the
Beaver County Fairgrounds. She also helped friends at the local Taste
Freeze. However, her real passion was baby-sitting (she had more call her
“mom” or “grandma” than we can count). She was a lifetime member of the
VFW Post 1366 in Liberal Kansas and was very active with the Ladies
Auxiliary.
She is survived by 6 children; Freddie Blackwell and Andrea Wilson of
Amarillo Texas, Joyce and Marvin Myers of Canyon Texas, Glen and Trinka
Blackwell of Amarillo Texas, Melvin and Clydene Blackwell of Gatesville
Texas, Marty Brisco of Amarillo Texas and Dennis Venable and Leanne Smith
of Laverne. Oklahoma, 17 grand children, 28 great grandchildren, 8
great-great grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands, Bob Blackwell, Don
Venable and Chuck Bowker, 4 brothers, Lawrence, Frankie, Alley, and Ivan
Cunningham, 5 sisters, Floreen Cunningham, Cordelia Bradford, Leona Brown,
Maxine Cell, and Betty Durkee, 1 son, Tommy Blackwell and 1 grandson,
Darren Searcy.
