Obituary for David Strickland

David Lee Strickland was born on October 21, 1952, in Liberal, Kansas to Verla Jean and Daniel Edgar Strickland II.  He grew up in the Turpin United Methodist Church.  He attended school at Turpin where he graduated in 1971.  He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts. 

            David married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Scott on January 3, 1973.  They were blessed with three children.  They made their home 1.5 miles south of Turpin.  David was involved in the family farm and ranching until 2009.  He worked in heating and air with his son-in-law, Brice, for 8 years.  In 2015, he bought the convenience store in Turpin, Lazy DS.  David was not one to be still, from carpenter to welder to plumber to electrician, he always had a project to keep himself busy.   He was a people person and loved the coffee hours at the store. 

            Papa Dave, as he became known by so many, loved his family, friends, and life in general. Dave had a special relationship with his brother and best friend, Steve.  They spent countless hours working and playing together, not a day passed that they didn’t see or talk to each other.  Golf was a big part of his life, and he especially enjoyed golfing with his brothers, son, sons-in-law, and grandsons.  He made many friends on the golf course.  Traveling to visit his kids and grandkids who lived far away was another hobby that he and Brenda enjoyed together.  Rodeos, ropings, and two special young men also played a big role in his life. 

            David was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Jean, and his grandparents.  He is survived by his wife, Brenda; children Maggi and husband, Nakia; Jess and wife, April; Holli and husband, Brice.  He has 10 grandchildren Chandler and wife, Susie; Ethan, Hannah and husband, Tanner; Sydni, Blane, Audra, Brock, and Lydia; 2 Great Grandchildren, Nolan and Novah.  His brothers Ed and wife, Rachel, Steve and wife, Rhonda, as well as several nephews and nieces and a host of friends. 

            Our Papa Dave left us on Tuesday, December 6^th.  We are truly broken-hearted by his passing but will remain forever blessed by the love and memories that he so generously gave to each one that he met. 

The funeral home will be open from 5 P.M. till 8 P.M. Thursday Night for public viewing.
